Over the last few weeks, members of the Jenkintown Fire Department have conducted in-house trainings on our Self-Contained-Breathing-Apparatus (SCBA) as well as in victim removal following search and rescue. Effective training on SCBA allows our members to have hands-on practice in activating these devices and "mask-up" quickly in order to enter a fire environment. While we frequently devote time and attention in searching and locating "victims" in a simulated training environment, we also must use one another to practice the removal of victims at full body weight to practice the ergonomics of removal, both across a flat surface and while navigating stairs.
