| This past weekend two members from the Pioneer Fire Company were able to take part in the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy's Flashover Recognition & Survival course hosted by the Abington Township Fire Department. This intensive one day training is designed to give the student the skills and knowledge that are required to recognize and understand the flashover stage of an interior compartment fire. Battalion Chief Mike Furlong was able to attend the course on Saturday while Firefighter Mike Cole was able to attend on Sunday.
Students received classroom training discussing the fire dynamics which may lead to flashover events as well as how to mitigate these conditions. Following this brief classroom discussion, firefighters were then introduced to the live fire training simulator where they were able to experience the conditions associated with flashover events.
Thanks to our mutual aid partners in the Abington Township Fire Department for hosting this course.
Additionally, last week Firefighter Sam Ford attended the Truck Academy course hosted at the Pennsylvania State Fire Academy in Lewistown, Pa representing his career fire department. This course is designed for experienced firefighters to introduce the student to the basic concept of truck company operations and duties, including organizing the delivery of truck company services, selection and use of key tools, advanced ventilation and forcible entry theory and practices, search and rescue, and other fire attack support functions.
Together, these opportunities reflect the commitment of our members to continuously train, sharpen their skills, and build proficiency in the ever-changing fire environment. Whether in the classroom or under live fire conditions, our firefighters are dedicated to staying prepared so they can perform at the highest level when our community needs them most |
